A teenage boy was discovered deceased only a few days after being wrongly accused of taking the cremated remains of a deceased infant during a break-in, an inquest has heard.

Tragic Finding

The young boy's mother and father found his remains in his room at his Flintshire home on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Accusations Start

The investigation learned how his mother received a message on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a woman asking if her son was her offspring. The communication stated: "Tell him appreciation for breaking into my flat."

In a testimony presented to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the news, claiming her infant's ashes had been taken in a burglary - a claim which was false.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An official inquiry from police later concluded the alleged burglary complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that said property was not taken in the beginning".

News coverage about the alleged stolen remains generated online responses, and although the teenager was not identified in the messages, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".

The "social media content were extremely distressing", she said.

Emotional Wellbeing Effect

She explained that Kai had been diagnosed with mild attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' views genuinely were important to him.

"This must have affected him severely," she said, "especially when this was untrue".

The teenager was detained at his residence, but nothing was found. He was taken to a police station and later freed pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in contact, the inquest learned, but had not reached out to the relatives by the time of his death.

Isolation and Anxiety

His mother said Kai "became isolated" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could feel like much longer".

When she spoke to him about the alleged incident, she said her son informed her he had entered the residence because the resident who lived there had said he could utilize the bathroom anytime he needed, but refuted taking anything.

Digital Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being harassed online after the allegations.

The proceedings learned that one young adult encouraged the teenager to end his life.

She had no worries on the evening before he died, describing how she had listened to him "chuckling and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "caring, affectionate" young man, and said her "relatives is completely shattered".

He had been "clearly hiding his concerns", she stated, adding that he could not bear to have anyone "think bad of him".

Educational Response

The inquest heard from school staff at Connah's Quay secondary school.

On November 8th, she "overheard some boys discussing that the student had been arrested and that was the first I learned".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the conversation, the staff member said she called the family's family landline and left a message saying she had communicated to the student about the accusations.

The court heard his family said they never got that communication.

Official Conclusion

Lead investigator informed the inquest he would await documents regarding what improvements had been made to handling individuals with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent deaths report.

Providing a descriptive finding, he stated: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old individual.

"Likely untruths were subsequently embellished and amplified through the platform of social media.

"On 11 November, he was questioned by the authorities and after his interview he was freed whilst inquiries proceeded."

The coroner determined: "Exists no evidence that the actions or omissions of any organization caused or added to his passing and although it was the result of a personal action it is not possible to discern his intent."
