Djokovic Delivers Warning to Jannik Sinner: Suspension Will Follow Him Like a "Shadow"

The tennis star has warned Jannik Sinner that his three-month ban for doping will linger over his career like a "cloud" – and raised doubts about the timing of the penalty in the previous season.

The Ban Explained

The Italian player served a three-month suspension in February 2025 after the global anti-doping body approved his account that a banned anabolic steroid, clostebol, had entered his system accidentally.

"That cloud will follow him just as the Covid controversy will follow me, for the rest of his, or my career," Djokovic stated in a discussion on Piers Morgan: Uncensored.

"It's just something that, it was so major, and after such events, with time it may lessen, but I believe it won't fully vanish. There will inevitably exist a specific segment of individuals that will continually reference the incident."

The Champion's Viewpoint

Djokovic expressed belief that Sinner, a regular practice partner, "had no intentional involvement", but he then scrutinized how the Italian managed to serve his time without missing a grand slam.

"The absence of openness, the irregularity, the convenient timing of the suspension occurring between major events, so he doesn't miss out the others – it simply appeared highly unusual," Djokovic added.

Broader Tennis Community Response

"I really don't like how the case was being handled and you could hear so many other players, both male and female, who had comparable circumstances voicing their concerns publicly and asserting it represented favorable handling."
